Root Canals

A root canal (also known as endodontic treatment) is the treatment of a tooth’s infected pulp. It involves the removal of tissues and/or nerves that have been damaged by traumatic injury or periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is the advanced form of Gingivitis – harmful bacteria that has built up around the tooth and gums. If this damage, whether due to periodontal disease or injury, goes left untreated, infection may lead to the loss of the tooth and further damage to the surrounding gumlines.

After all infected structures have been removed, the procedure involves cleaning the decontaminated space and filling it with a sealant. Oftentimes the tooth is then fit with a dental crown, improving the aesthetics of the tooth and your overall smile.
